The History of Söders Hjärta

The story of Söders Hjärta began in 1975, when Ivan Svegl bought a small café space on Bellmansgatan and transformed it into a restaurant. Together with his wife, Eva Nederby, he created Söders Hjärta. A few years later, they purchased the neighboring premises and built a bar. Cocktails and music became—and remain—an essential part of Hjärtat's identity.

Forty years later, Niclaes Wallmark and Christian Wabnig took over. Today, Hjärtat has been around for 50 years, and we continue with constant new energy.

A lot has happened at Söders Hjärta over the years, and we are continuously evolving. ABBA have enjoyed a late-night dinner here, Crown Princess Victoria has visited with her entourage, a Mexican Nobel Prize laureate came here to enjoy traditional Swedish home-style cooking, and local characters like Mördarnisse and Sprutstickan once hung out here back in the day.

Hjärtat is a place where you eat well, drink well, and feel great. Niclaes and Christian refine and develop Hjärtat with a gentle touch—always the best food, the best drinks, and the best music.
